This year's election had a totally different outcome than expect. For one, I think not one person believed that Barack Obama would end up becoming the 44th president, well, maybe Oprah. Two years ago, Obama was popular but I didn't see anything that really stood out to me about him. As time went on and several of the Democratic candidates started dropping like flies, I was hopeful that he would potentially become the next President of the United States. In the beginning, the media covered both the Republicans and Democrats parties fairly well. But after McCain and Obama became the front runners in the presidential campaign, the media shifted its attention to Obama. There was more positive Obama coverage coming from the media. McCain's campaign endured more negative attention from the media. In my newsroom, I think it's easy to get caught-up in the hype surrounding the favorable candidate. But as a journalist, I know I have to maintain a balance even when I'm leaning towards a particular side. I don't have a problem with understanding another person's perspective about life. I also don't get offend easily when it comes to someone opposing my views. I feel my views are what they are, my views and I understand that not everyone will agree with my views. But I would want everyone in my newsroom to have the same mentality.
